Kayakers can enjoy Deep Bay’s natural and protected harbour and if you’re looking for an adventure you can go caving at Horne Lake Caves Provincial Park, only 20 minutes south of Deep Bay. Nicely sheltered by Mapleguard Point, Deep Bay is located in Lighthouse County, or the Baynes Sound area.
Rich salmon grounds lie near the bay while a superb winter waterfowl habitat is found along its shores. Adjacent Baynes Sound provides shelter to multiple bird species and is a popular viewing area for Bald Eagles and Herons that congregate at the mouth of salmon streams during winter
For those who love tranquil strolls and artsy towns, there’s Denman Island and Hornby Island, just a 15-minute ferry ride away from Buckley Bay. Denman, the larger of the two, is known for its pastoral farmlands and its population of talented artisans. Stroll down a country lane, bask in the unspoiled countryside of woods and wildflowers or explore hidden coves along the sunny coastline. From Denman, cross to nearby Hornby Island, with its gorgeous white sandy beaches on Tribune Bay - go hiking, kayaking, cycling or scuba diving.
Vancouver Island enjoys a moderate year-round climate. Our golf greens are in fact green in the winter and we sail our boats year round. Summer, Winter, Fall or Spring … We are Canada’s playground for all seasons!
